Proper singers in Arabic music are held to very high standards, as vocal talent and skill are valued above all else. Singers are expected to posses ample innate talent, have a full command of proper technique, be adept at improvisation, and be able to sing at least a few of the complex Arabic maqams (music scales). 

The gold standard for any singer, despite the dominance of the pop genre which requires less of a vocal pedigree and more visual appeal, remains their ability to perform the classics.  For today's show we will hear from contemporary pop stars who have attempted the classics, some with great success and others who should have stayed with their glossy music videos.
